Fall Quarter '25

Working in groups for a final project

This quarter I took a biology elective that served as a prerequisite for upper division biology courses. The course was Biology 315 Biological Impacts of Climate Change. We learned about topics from climate proxies to current ecological responses to climate change. As our final project, we were tasked with working in assigned groups to write an essay about our research topic of choice that pertained to climate change.

As a group, we researched the changed in malaria transmissions based on climate changes. There was a strong limit on word count which made this more of a challenge. There was also an emphasis on having each individual add their writing to the group work. Overall, the process of working with others on a group research essay taught me patience, consistency, and organization. Throughout the process I did my part in organizing meetings for all of us to discuss our project. UW students have busy schedules so this did not always work out. Ultimately, we all contributed to the essay and this was an instance of personal growth

Hopelink x Cozy Connections x FB supply drives

This quarter, I organized food, clothing, and hygiene supply drives! Floss Boss partnered with Hopelink for a food drive. Hopelink is a Seattle-based organization that provides food markets where community members can shop at no cost to them. We are grateful for our patient's generous donations. I met with Debbie after emailing her for months. She was super sweet and told us that she noticed our community engagement efforts in gaining attention for this food drive. That meant a lot because as a team we put in the effort to make sure we reach out to as many community member as possible.

Additionally, I organized the clothing/hygiene supply drive  for the Cozy Connections and Floss Boss partnership. Cozy Connections is a local, seasonal drive that aims to get necessities to those in need especially during the cold, winter months. On Christmas day, the Cozy Connections team and their volunteers donate toys, jackets, and provide free hair cuts to their community members. It warms my heart to be a part of the collective efforts that are needed to make an impact on our communities. Through these experiences I practiced public service and personal growth
